I just made a search in Google-images on (iconic photos) and I had some thoughts about the results I felt I wanna post
I took a look till the 5th page on the search, and these images are from these pages only!
Obama and his famous slogan (HOPE). It is one of the iconic images in the past 10 years. He came to Egypt and gave a historic speech in Cairo University in 2008 about fixing the relations between USA and the Islamic world, but what was really done is that the stupidness and aggressiveness of the former president Bush was stopped, nothing more nothing less! May be for USA citizen this slogan and this iconic poster still means something, but for me he is another American president.
Ali or Muhammad Ali or Cassius Clay.. Those are different names people from different backgrounds can call this former American boxer, but all of them agree that he “float like a butterfly, sting like a bee”. He refused to join the US army war in Vietnam in 1967. He collected it all the Olympics gold, the world championship belt, being culture icon and reaching a personal glory. That’s what I call an american icon,or in other words, he used all his capabilities to invade the abilities in a very free and open society
Talking about war must lead us to WW2 and one of the biggest battles in history. Normandy landings or “Operation Neptune” 1944. That was a critical point in history, Hitler was loosing anyway but this was the extreme show of power by the allies to end the Nazi from history. Germans “Atlantic wall” was one of the strongest defenses which were all built and refined over a four year period align the English channel in the French coast, and of course you can see what happened that day in american movies like “Saving private Ryan”
While the liberality of the society and the strong industry of entertainment can turn the war memory to icons like the above (WW2 celebration-american iconic photo).
Others don’t have the privilege of enjoying the memory as it left some deep scars! (photo from Vietnam war)

The next 3 images are American, and you can notice that Americans strongly control the results of this search.
Marlyn Monoroe is the sex appeal of the world so far, others may be more attractive like BB or Sophia Loren but no other woman can understand men more as it seems like Marlyn Monoroe did! She had a relationship with the highest rank (politicians, intellectuals and athletes). Her live ended in a dramatic way, she got what it takes to be always in mens’ dreams, and I always remember her answer when she was asked in 1954 what she wore on bed at night, she answered, “Five drops of Chanel No. 5″
Bobby Fischer, the American chess master and champion in the period 1972-1975, was the only American out of approximately 20 champions since 1886, 11 of them were Russians (including USSR) and the recent champion is Indian. This photo is somehow iconic, don’t know why, but he meant something in the cold-war may be
Mickey Mouse is one of the most famous icons of the American culture, most of the population of this planet know the characters of Disney world, but what about other European cartoon characters which are way more artistic and amusing from the kids’ culture all over the world?! Compare American (Disney and super-heroes characters) to European (Tin-tin, Asterix and Lucky-Luke) and you will only feel how strong Hollywood is!

The lesson learned from this post is; never trust (culture or art search) top results although you may like it :p

Very true
Nice post.
